Background Info: Ikki Tousen was made by J.C.Staff who have also done Orphan and Revolutionary Girl Utena. Originaly licensed by Geneon but since there gone Funimation owns the license of it now. Also dubbed by New Generation Pictures which have also dubbed GunXSword and Paranoia Agent. Brief Summary: Seven schools are constantly ‘at war’ with each other, and the students within – both male and female – have become skilled fighters and constantly battle with rival schools. Their lives and fates are guided by strange jewels that contain the spirits and destinies of warriors from the Sangokushi period. One girl, Sonsaku Hakufu, has recently moved to Japan and is apparently destined to unite the schools as her counterpart united seven countries long ago. But, like all heroes, there is a darker side to her fate.
Review: Before I start I got to say yes, I know it’s written Ikkitousen but to me I have always pronounced as two words so I also write it that way. Now with that off my chest Ikki Tousen is fan-service incorporated. By that I mean this anime was made for hormonal teens who let there lower head control what they watch rather then the upper one. Ikki Tousen has nice concept with the whole three kingdoms in modern day with trained fighters thing sounds awesome but the way they explain the characters and how there connected to the real historical people is confusing and doesn’t make sense sometimes. Like having a complete player being the reincarnation of a strategic mastermind because no one saw him, betraying them coming. That’s not how that works. Also they stay the story for the season is a war between the 7 high school in the area but they only bring that up when they cant find another reason to get these good looking scantly clad high school girls to fight each other or someone who can remove there clothes with a technique or strength. To be clear I dont mind fan-service in anime but when it is the only reason why you made something then you should be a shamed of your self and maybe should get checked. Luckily the animation is nice and the fights aren’t that bad so at least you got something nice to see but too bad it sucks to listen too.
Sorry for the short review but there really isn’t much to talk about with the first season. So with all that I give Ikki Tousen season. a score of 3/10 and a not see score. It has a lot of issues but I got to give it a point for the idea and the fan-service did get to me time to time. If you want to see fan-service with actual sorry check out Shuffle or Baka To Test.
