Ao No Exorcist or Blue Exorcist was animated by a whole lot of companies but the main contributer to this anime is Aniplex who has also done Guin Saga and Fate/Zero. Later licensed by Aniplex of America and dubbed by Bang Zoom Entertainment which has also done Persona 4: The Animation and Sword Art Online. So far this anime has some pretty great credentials behind it. Lets see if the cover and back does show what you’ll get with Blue exorcist.
This world consists of two dimensions joined as one, like a mirror. The first is the world in which the humans live, Assiah. The other is the world of demons, Gehenna. Ordinarily, travel between the two, and indeed any kind of contact between the two, is impossible. However the demons can pass over into this world by possessing anything that exist within it. Rin Okumura a 15 year old priest son finds out that his real father is the ruler of Gehenna,Satan. With that knowledge Rin sees his life and family in a different light. So with all that Rin decides to become a exorcist to kill Satan and protect the people he loves.
Blue Exorcist is a shounen anime through and through. The story at it’s core is basic shounen, the character types are shounen 101 and what they want you to focus on which is the fights again is shounen 101. Now with that said because it follows the same format as other shounen anime doesn’t make it bad or unwatchable. Actually what it means is it will probably be really enjoyable to watch, to hear or agree with is another thing though. If you dont watch a lot of shounen anime here’s the basic of most shounen’s. It most have a supernatural or mystic element to it(in this case demons and exorcist), It most have a anxy lead with a heart of gold(Rin), A/lot of comic relief with power (Shura and Faust), A creature to use as a mascot(Kuro) and fight scenes to make you forget the plot holes they usually have because they just say dramatic stuff to sound deep but later or early make a scene that contradicts it completely(which this almost does). I know I’m not talking about this anime too much in depth but that’s because there really is no depth to speak of. What you read in a summary is pretty much what you get. Now again just because you what’s going to happen doesn’t make it entertaining to watch. The fights are a lot of fun. The characters generic as they are, aren’t bland or not entertain to watch and the openings really do pump you up to watch more. Yes a min. and half song will make you want to watch 20 mins of a episode. It’s that good, or at least the first one is.
So with all that I give Blue Exorcist a score of 7/10 with a check it out score the fights are great and Rin will make you believe in his goal but the story is a little tedious and the plot holes can get annoying but if you dont think too much about it. It’s not that bad. If you want to watch some other demon filled shounen check out Bleach or Beelzebub.
